  •  January: Week 1

    January 4-7. Kindergarten - 2nd grade will read "Magical" stories and then answer questions to analyze characters and their actions, describe setting, and identify the problem and solution. Slides 2 - 4 are for 3rd grade for the same books but with different questions. They will answer literal and inferential questions. 4th and 5th grades this week will be determine meaning and developing logical interpretations by inferring, drawing conclusions, analyzing, synthesizing, providing evidence with the story "Grandfather's Journey" by A. Say.

    January: Week 2

    January 11-14. Kindergarten - 1st grades will be retelling read-alouds by stating events in the beginning, middle and end of the story. Second grade will retell the story in sequential order. Third grade will exploring and using a Thesaurus. Fourth and fifth grade students will identify which reference source to use.

     

    January: Week 3

    January 19-21. Kinders and 1st grade will have an author study on Marc Brown (slides 1 -3). Second grade will discuss sound devices (slide 4). Third grade will continue with Thesaurus. Fourth and 5th grades will begin with a Typing challenge.

     

    January: Week 4

    January 24-28   . Kinders through 2nd grade will read the rest of the SCPBA winners and discuss the beginning, middle and end of the story.  Third grade will begin a genre study and learn about myths. Fourth and 5th grades will begin  a typing challenge to meet the state requirements for each grade. 

     

    February: Week 1

    Jan 31 -Feb 3. Kinders through 2nd grade will vote on their favorite book from the SCPBA nominees.  Third grade will learn about genres and Fairy Tales.  Fourth and fifth grades will learn about nonfiction Dewey numbers.

     

    February: Week 2

    Feb 7 - 11. Kinders through 2nd grade will read books on Sweet treats and Valentines Day.  Third grade will learn about the genre- Tall Tales.  Fourth and Fifth grades will have s table challenge on Dewey.

     

     February: Week 3

    Feb 14 - 17. Kinders and 1st grade will learn about shapes. Second grade will explore Michael Garland's series about Miss Smith. Third grade will learn about the genre- Fables.  Fourth grade and Fifth grades will conduct table challenges using the computer card catalog.

    February: Week 4

    Feb 22 - 25. Kinders and 1st grade will learn about Don Freeman's character Corduroy. Second grade will compare different versions of the Tortoise and the Hare. Third grade will learn about the genre- Historical Fiction.  Fourth grade and Fifth grade will find books using call numbers.

     

    March: Week 1

    February 28 - March 4. Kinders and 1st grade will hear Caldecott winning books. Second grade will learn about different careers. Third grade will compare genres- Realistic Fiction to Fantasy.  Fourth grade and Fifth Grades will find books on shelves.

     

    March: Week 2

    March 7-11. Kinders and 1st grade will hear some fairy tales and compare those to storyteller Mary Jo Huff's creative versions. Second grade will look at some frog stories and explain how illustrations are important. Third grade will learn about the genre Mystery.  Fourth and Fifth grade will learn about Almanac.

    March: Week 3

    March 14-18. Kinders and 1st grade will hear St. Patrick's Day. Second grade will learn how to find the copyright date in books. Third grade will learn about the genre - science fiction.  Fourth and Fifth grade will be on online literacy and math sites.

     

    March: Week 4

    March 22-25. Kinders and 1st grade will hear Spring books. Second grade will compare versions of Cinderella. Third grade will learn about the genre called Biography.  Fourth and Fifth grades will have a cooperation group activity.

     

    March: Week 5

    March 28-April 1. Kinders and 1st grade will hear books by Helen Lester. Second grade will compare versions of Cinderella. Third grade will learn about the educational site "Know-It-All.org".  Fourth and Fifth grades will have a cooperation group activity
